Cooling Tower:
Cooling tower is a heat rejection device which extracts waste heat to the atmosphere through the cooling of a water stream to a lower temperature.
Purpose of cooling tower:
- To cool the liquid at the desired temperature.
- To supply the liquid to the predefined machine.
- To keep the temperature within working level.
- To reject the waste heat to the atmosphere.
Capacity calculation:
Cooling load of cooling tower= ms∆T
Where,
m =mass flow rate (Kg/s)
s = specific heat (J/kg-K) [for water 4200 J/kg-K]
∆T =Temperature difference (K)
[Generally the temperature difference is kept within (4-6) K]
Unit Conversion:
Load=Kg/s * J/Kg-K * K
=Kg*J*K/s*Kg-K
=J/s= watt=watt/1000= kilowatt=kilowatt/3.5= ton
